5 Underrated Sitcoms You Need to Watch Right Now

Let’s be honest, we all have a sitcom that we find ourselves binge-watching over and over again. Whether it’s How I Met Your Mother, The Office, Friends, Modern Family, or The Big Bang Theory, there’s a charm that doesn’t seem to wear off, even on the umpteenth watch.

But sometimes it’s fun to discover something new, and who knows, maybe we’ll find something that becomes our new favorite obsession. 

The sitcoms in this list are currently available on Amazon Prime, Peacock and Hulu, which are some of the best streaming platforms you can use in 2025.

Go On

This sitcom has a tragically brave premise: the main character is a man who’s grieving after losing his wife. Doesn’t sound very funny, right?

Ryan King, brilliantly played by Mathew Perry, decides that he’s ready to go back to work after which he’s forced to attend a grief support group by his boss Steven. Ryan soon realizes that maybe his decision to go back to work this soon wasn’t such a great idea, and maybe group therapy is exactly what he needs right now.

The show is similar in a lot of ways to Community and is a great watch if you enjoy the humor of that show.

Becker

• Seasons: 6
• Cast: Ted Danson, Shawnee Smith, Hattie Winston, Alex Désert, Saverio Guerra, Terry Farrell, Jorge Garcia, Nancy Travis

Becker is an underrated sitcom that deserves a watch, mainly because it feels original, even among the sea of sitcoms out there.

The show revolves around Becker, who is a misanthropic doctor constantly annoyed by the people around him. Despite his constant annoyance with his patients, friends, and colleagues, they are loyal to him as they know that Becker genuinely cares about them.

The sitcom tackles a lot of serious issues like race, addiction, homosexuality, and mental issues, that even today, seem to be a huge topic of debate. The show had a run of six seasons, all of which featured great performances from the cast.

Party Down

Despite the fun-sounding name, Party Down can be very bleak and depressing at times, but it manages to bring a lot of comedy out of the bleak moments. 

The show follows a group of writers and actors working for a catering company in Los Angeles. The group works small catering gigs, trying to bring a positive change in their lives. Every episode follows the cast working on a new event, always becoming a part of the absurd lives of the guests.

The show has three seasons, with each season getting universal acclaim. It’s a crime that this show didn’t receive the attention it deserves, since it has a lot of potential to be on the list of the best sitcoms ever.

Ted

• Cast: Max Burkholder, Seth MacFarlane, Alanna Ubach, Giorgia Whigham, Scott Grimes

You probably already know about the Ted movies by Seth MacFarlane. However, the show went unnoticed when it was released in early 2024.

The show is set in 1993 and 1994, way before the events of the Ted movies, and shows the life of John Bennet and his early life with Ted, soon after he magically comes to life. Ted also features John’s family and shows a lot of character development of all the characters involved.

The show currently only has one season but was renewed for a second season shortly after its release.

Raising Hope

• Cast: Lucas Neff, Garret Dillahunt, Martha Plimpton, Shannon Woodward, Cloris Leachman, Gregg Binkley

This is another example of a sitcom that got an amazing reception from the audience but is an underrated show that isn’t mentioned in a lot of lists.

The show is about a young man who finds out he has a baby with a wanted felon. He now has to raise the child with his family’s help. Soon, he realizes that things may not be as easy as they seem as his parents have no interest in helping raise a baby and his grandmother can barely take care of herself.

The setup with a dad and his baby is a very unique change, something we don’t see often with a lot of shows, and the cast gives an amazing performance.
