Who Is Stuart Law? ICC Ranking, Age, Career Info & Stats
Stuart Law was the first Queenslander to captain his state to win the Sheffield Shield, and he also played for Essex and Lancashire. Even though he did not intend to add to his single Test cap, Law became a British citizen. Law was a prolific batsman in Australian domestic cricket, but he lived in an era when quality batsmen were in abundance.
Consequently, he was restricted to that solitary Test cap, against Sri Lanka in Perth in 1995-96, where he scored an unbeaten half-century – leaving him without a Test average. He played 54 ODI matches, but he was dropped from the Australian team before the Australians won in England in 1999.
Between 1999 and 2003, he passed 1000 runs for Queensland, Essex and Lancashire, and only injury prevented him from continuing the streak in 2004. After leaving Essex in acrimonious fashion in 2001, he signed with Lancashire, where he continued to score consistently big runs. While his participation in the Indian Cricket League contributed to his release from Lancashire at the end of 2008, he was quickly snapped up by Derbyshire ahead of 2009.

The interim coach for Sri Lanka was Law briefly after the 2011 World Cup, but then took charge of Bangladesh. He had some success, leading Bangladesh to their first Asian Cup final, but resigned nine months later. After returning to Australia, he took on various roles, including coaching the national team’s batting, working for CA’s Centre of Excellence, and coaching the Under-19s.
When Darren Lehmann was appointed Australia coach in 2013, he became coach of Queensland Bulls and Brisbane Heat. He then served as technical advisor to the Bangladesh Under-19 team at the 2016 U-19 World Cup, before becoming head coach of West Indies in January 2017.
